- What’s the difference between premixes and concentrates?

Today the difference between premixes and concentrates is very small, and as premix can be called a concentrate, concentrate can be called premix too. But several years ago that difference was critical and was defined by tax legislation: Premixes were the subject of 18% tax, and concentrates – of 10%. That is why most suppliers tried to avoid tax liabilities and sold their premixes as concentrates. Although there was a difference in premixes and concentrates definition:

- Premix – vitamin, mineral or vitamin-mineral mix for complete feed production;

- Concentrates – mainly protein or cereal mix; with the addition of basic part it became complete feed.

Now either premixes or concentrates can include vitamin, mineral and protein part, so it is practically impossible to find any difference. Another classification is used: premixes – mixes with concentration from 0.01% to 2-3%, concentrates – mixes with concentration from 5 to 40%.

 - What premixes and concentrates are needed for?

 Animal and poultry feed needed to be filled with specially developed additives – premixes. They include all the necessary components for animal health: vitamins, amino acids, micro and macro elements which make influence on high and stable productivity; probiotics, prebiotics and feed consumption stimulators help to avoid many diseases and promote growth of young animals. Permanent correct usage of feed additives for poultry leads to increase of laying capacity, shell strengthening, and egg production number. Quality and quantity of wool, meat and milk of animals is improved. Animals are born healthy, young feed can be replaced by adult feed faster and their growth is promoted; eggs placed into incubator have higher percent of hatchability. Animals which consume premixes are less liable to diseases and have better growth.  

 - Can premix be used as feed?

 Premix is not feed itself; it’s just a feed additive for animals. If premix isn’t used correctly animals will be sick or even die, as pure premix is toxic product. It is even known that in some cases all herd died because of incorrect use.  - What animal species can be premixes produced for?
